What is Reiki? (ray-key)
Rei means universal life energy and ki means the part of that energy which flows through all living things. Recent scientific experiments have verified the existence of the unlimited supply of "life energy", and medical doctors are now considering the role it plays in the function of the immune system and the healing process.
In the nineteenth century the Japanese monk Mikao Usui rediscovered the technique from his reading of ancient Sanskrit writings. He passed on his knowledge, training "masters" to "tap into" the universal life energy and allow the energy to flow through the "master's" body and hands into the body of the client. Reiki is spirirtual, but is not a "religion" nor is it "New Age"!
The body, mind and spirit are like three threads woven together to form a strong cord. Harmony in the three areas are required for good health and balance. Reiki treatment helps improve general health and protect against illness, as well as provide strength, energy and general well-being.
Some clients have sought reiki treatment for relief from stress and fatigue, headaches, backaches and muscle tension, menstrual pain, gastrointestinal problems, as well as pain from chronic conditions such as arthritis. Others seek other reiki treatment to speed healing of injuries sustained in accidents/falls.
By placing hands on and above areas of the client's body, a Reiki practitioner restores life energy to areas with blockages, allowing the body to heal itself. Some clients feel "warmth" spread throughout their body; others feel "tingling"; still others feel "nothing" during the reiki session but "feel better" after. The energy flows through the practitioner into the client and both receive the healing energy. The "effect" of Reiki can be felt even on a person who is questioning whether it is "real". It can be relaxing and beneficial on children and also animals!
Twenty-five years following the Biblical instruction to "lay hands on the sick and pray for their healing" paved the way for Nancy Loucks to become a Reiki Master/Teacher. Nancy completed her Master's training in Dr. Usui's method of Reiki in November 1, 2003.
... and they will be able to place their hands on the sick and heal them. The Living Bible, Mark 16:18
There is a light in this world ... a healing spirit much stronger than any darkness we may encounter. We sometimes lose sight of this force ... where there is suffering; too much pain. And suddenly the spirit will emerge ... through lives of ordinary people, and answer in extra- ordinary ways. God speaks in the silence of the heart and we listen. Mother Teresa
